Young children writing during a writing time.

In the video below you will watch and listen to children "turn and talk".  This is a very important part of our writing time.  After we share an idea, topic and listen to a story we turn and talk to a friend nearby to talk about what we heard.  This helps us talk out and think about our story more deeply and get our brain ready to write our story!

What is Writer's Workshop?

This is a time everyday that your child spends on writing.  We focus on different genre studies, craft studies and process studiesA genre study focuses on a specific type of writing.  In Kindergarten we focus on the following genres; poetry, narrative writing, informational, personal narratives, procedural and response to literature.  A process study is when we offer choice of a specific genre and may focus on word spacing, editing techniques, and develop writing partnerships.  A craft study is when we focus on writing conventions, good beginnings, dialogue bubbles, sound/symbol work, features characteristic of a specific genre, etc.
