More "How To" Writing!

This photo shows a child getting ready to demonstrate "How To" get ready to go home!
Welcome!  We began a new study of writing this week, "How To" writing.  The children really enjoyed demonstrating "how to" do something, then turning and talking about their "how to" idea.  The video below shows you the first step that we started with before we began putting our ideas on paper!

The photos below show you the paper that we have been using to write our "How To" stories.  After the children turn and talk about their idea for their story, they illustrate their story using story frames.  Each frame represents a step in their story.  The children number their frames to keep track of what happens 1st, next and then last!  Afterwards the children have another opportunity to turn and talk about their story using their illustrations to help explain their story meaning.  Then the children begin writing their steps! This is a wonderful example of what you would see in Kindergarten!

In the picture below you will see a great example of how some of the students combined their writing with their illustrations for their story!  Great writing happening in Kindergarten!

In the videos you will be listening to a couple of children share their "How To" stories that they created.  This was initiated by the children after we completed a writing study of how to write "How To" stories.

So what does it look like and sound like when your child is writing an Informational piece of writing?

A child holding an illustartion that he created.  He used colored pencils and a regular pencil to illustarte his bird.  Nice Work!
